Adult BJJ Classes for Ormiston Students

Adult classes are for ages 15 and up. They run Monday to Thursday evenings, all in the gi, under three black belts, and complete beginners are welcome in every class. Saturday morning competition training is there for anyone who wants it, and it is always optional. From Ormiston you can finish work, drive seven minutes and be on the mat for the 6pm class.

Mon & Tue, 6pm

Fundamentals

The core positions, escapes and submissions that everything else is built on. It assumes you know nothing, which makes it where most beginners start.

Wed & Thu, 6pm

All levels and specific training

One technique taught to the whole room, with black belts adding detail for the experienced belts, and sparring that starts from one set position.

Mon to Thu, 7pm

Rolling

Live rounds with a partner, straight after the 6pm class. You join when you feel ready and choose how hard each round goes. A tap stops everything.

Kids' Jiu-Jitsu for Ormiston Families

Kids train from age 5 to 15 in four age groups, so your child is always on the mat with children at the same stage. Jiu-jitsu is built on leverage and technique, with no punching or kicking, and it gives kids earned confidence, focus and a calm answer to bullying. Every class is taught by black belts, after school and on Saturday mornings.

Little Cubs, ages 5 to 6

Mon & Wed, 4:00pm

First steps on the mat, through play: rolling, falling safely, balance, and learning to listen and wait their turn.

Cubs, ages 7 to 8

Mon & Wed, 4:30pm

Games become techniques. Cubs link moves together and learn the anti-bullying basics, from a strong voice to breaking a grip.

Little Lions, ages 9 to 12

Mon & Wed, 5:15pm · Sat, 10am

Real jiu-jitsu, with real thinking: submissions, sweeps and guard work, and supervised live rounds at a pace set by the coach.

Lions, ages 13 to 15

Tue & Thu, 4:00pm and 4:30pm · Sat, 10am

Teen training with adult-level detail: longer live rounds and deeper technique. It is the bridge into our adult program.
